Village of Big Springs - 2026 General Election Certification

PUBLIC NOTICE
Village of Big Springs – 2026 General Election Certification

The Certification for the 2026 General Election, scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026, regarding the open Trustee positions, has been transmitted to the Deuel County Clerk in accordance with election procedures. For further information, please contact the County Clerk’s office directly.

Trustee Appointments

  • Denise DeCoste was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Justin Dinkel, who was elected at the November 8, 2022 general election and later vacated his seat due to unexcused absences. Her appointment continues until the statewide general election on November 3, 2026, at which time the office will be filled by the voters for a new four-year term. The appointment ends once the successor is elected and qualified, as provided in Nebraska Revised Statute § 32‑532.
  • Tylar Thompson was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Liberty Farrier, who was elected at the November 8, 2022 general election and subsequently resigned. His appointment likewise continues until the statewide general election on November 3, 2026, at which time the office will be filled by the voters for a new four-year term. The appointment ends once the successor is elected and qualified, as provided in Nebraska Revised Statute § 32‑532.

Village Reorganizational Meeting – December 1, 2026
Newly elected officials will assume office at the Village of Big Springs’ reorganizational meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, 2026.


ELECTION FILING DEADLINES

Statutory candidate filing deadlines for the 2026 General Election are as follows:

  • Incumbents (current officeholders): July 15, 2026
  • Non-incumbents (new candidates): August 1, 2026

A filing fee of $24.00 must be paid to the Village Treasurer prior to filing for office. Candidate filings must be submitted to the Deuel County Clerk. Please note that no extensions are permitted—the July 15 and August 1 deadlines are firm.

Electronic Billboard Installation Delayed

The Village Board accepted Tri City Sign’s proposal for the electronic billboard on August 11, 2025. Due to current tariff-related supply delays, installation is temporarily on hold for 12–15 weeks. Tri City will provide updates as materials become available. The billboard will feature blue coloring and South Platte Knights artwork.
